Kidney missing from woman's body: Autopsy

Doctors of the forensic department at the Theni Government Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday after conducting a post-mortem of a woman, whose kidney was allegedly harvested by a private hospital on Cumbum Range Officer Road, confirmed that the organ was missing.

Police said, Vijaya (40), wife of Sambath from Avulajukku Street in Gudalur, was admitted to a private hospital on Cumbum Range Officer Road a few months ago after she complained of severe stomach pain.

As the pain did not subside even after various tests followed by a few surgeries, she was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai 20 days back.

After diagnosing the patient, doctors found that she was afflicted with uterus cancer. But doctors at the private hospital had allegedly provided wrong treatment to the woman.

During medical investigations, the GRH doctors also found that one of her kidneys was missing, sources said.
