A policeman was arrested here on Friday by the Jalakandapuram police for allegedly raping his ex-lover.

According police, Raj Kumar (28) (name changed), a policeman at present serving in the 4th Battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police force at Kovaipudur in Coimbatore, while studying at the Government College of Arts and Science, Mettur, developed a relationship with his collegemate Sujatha (27) (name changed). Both were residents of different villages near Jalakandapuram.

However, Sujatha got married to one of his relatives, Jayaraman (name changed). But even after the marriage, Raj Kumar allegedly continued to have physical relationship with Sujatha by threatening her that he would reveal their affair to others.

Recently he threatened Sujatha saying that he would upload photographs showing her in a compromising position and asked her to desert her husband.

Unable to bear his torture, Jayaraman and Sujatha lodged a complaint with the Jalakandapuram police. They handed over a copy of the internet download containing photos uploaded by Raj Kumar.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Raj Kumar on Friday and booked cases under section 376 (for rape) and Section 4 of the Woman harassment act (for threatening the victim to separate from her husband) against him.
