A sitting panchayat president was booked for misrepresenting her caste by producing a certificate to the effect she was from Scheduled Caste while originally she was from a backward community.
N Rajasulochana (55), wife of Nagarajan, from Anaikudi contested as a candidate for the post of President for Peramur panchayat in Tiruvaiyaru block, which was reserved for a SC candidate. She was elected as the panchayat president with a margin of 563 votes. Meanwhile, a group of people petitioned the collector that she did not belong to SC.
Enquiry revealed that Rajasulochana did not belong to SC community but her husband Nagarajan was from SC community. Rajasulochana had obtained an SC community certificate from Tiruvaiyaru Tashildar office, way back in 1995. Following the enquiry N Vembaiyan, Tashildar of Tiruvaiyaru lodged a complaint against Rajasulochana.
