2 killed, 13 injured as jeep collides with TNSTC bus

Two people were killed and 13 injured when a jeep carrying vegetables collided with a State Transport Corporation bus near Samayanallur in the wee hours of Saturday.

The bus was on its way from Dindigul to Nagercoil on the Madurai-Dindigul National Highway when the mishap took place.

According to police, jeep driver Pounraj of Kodaikanal and cleaner Sugumaran (22) were accompanied by Dennison (22), a vegetable vendor, as they went to buy vegetables from an integrated market near Paravai.

They were returning to Kodaikanal with Sugumaran and Dennison sitting on the front seat when the TNSTC bus collided with their vehicle. Sugumaran and Dennison were killed on the spot while 13 injured bus passengers, including the driver, were rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

Three of the bus passengers -- Jeyaganesh (30), his wife Murugeswari of Virudhunagar and Jumana (60)-- sustained serious injuries and were undergoing treatment at GRH.
