VIT Chancellor elected head of Loyola Alumni Association

G Viswanathan, Chancellor of  VIT University,  was elected as the new president of Chennai’s Loyola College Alumni Association at a recent executive committee meeting. Father K Amal, Rector of Loyola College, announced his election as the new president.

Fr Amal noted that members of the executive committee and chapter coordinators were delighted to have Viswanathan on board. He added that Viswanathan was not only a distinguished alumnus, he was also a former MP, former minister and architect of VIT.

An emotional Viswanathan said that he was thrilled to join Loyola in 1957. He recalled that he was denied admission initially for his poor English. He also  spoke of the guidance of Fr Murphy, his English teacher at Loyola, which helped him to become a debator and orator.
