An aged woman and her daughter were allegedly found murdered inside their house near here on Tuesday. The jewels worn by them and the cash kept in the safe were also missing.

According to police, Dhanalakshmi (40), a garment unit employee was living with her mother, Vasanthagokila (70), in a rented house on 60-Foot Road in Anuparpalayam. Dhanalakshmi’s husband died a few years ago.

On Tuesday morning, Kala, who lived on the first floor of the house, noticed the door of Dhanalakashmi’s house on the ground floor, locked from outside, but the lights were on inside. Kala, who grew suspicious by this, peeped into the house through the window and was shocked to find Dhanalakshmi lying on the floor. On information from Kala, two brothers of Dhanalakshmi rushed to the spot and broke open the door.

Dhanalakshmi was found murdered inside the bedroom, while her mother Vasantha’s body was found in the bathroom. While strangulation marks were found on both the victims, the murderer had also slit the throat of Vasanatha.

Police suspected that the mother-daughter duo might have been murdered during a robbery attempt.

“The gold chains worn by the duo are missing and the bureau has also been tampered with. The assailants have escaped with the booty after locking the house from outside,” police said.
