Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced she has given nod to disburse 4,000 metric tonnes of rice to mosques for preparation of porridge during the holy month of Ramzan.

Jayalalithaa observed in a statement that it was during her 2001-2006 stint as Chief Minister that the government had introduced the scheme for the provision of rice to mosques across the State during Ramzan season.

“I have given approval to ensure the hassle-free disbursement of rice to mosques this year as well. This will ensure the availability of 4,000 metric tonnes of rice to over 3,000 mosques across the state for preparation of porridge for breaking the customary fast during the holy month,” Jayalalithaa said in a statement.
