8-year-old girl's death: Neighbour arrested

A 34-year-old fast food stall owner was arrested on Sunday on charges killing a mentally-challenged girl, whose body found hidden beneath a wash basin in his house.

Amalraj, a native of Pandankudi at Ramanathapuram and also the neighbour of the girl, was produced before Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.

Akhsaya had been missing since four days and her parents had searched for her at all possible places in vain.

Meanwhile, mother of the 8-year-old felt foul odour coming out of Amalraj’s locked house and alerted the residents on Saturday.

They found that the odour was coming out of a newly constructed portion below the wash basin inside the kitchen. With police assistance, they broke open the wall and found Akshaya’s body inside.

Police caught Amalraj at Periyar Bus stand in Madurai. “We can tell the reason behind the death only after investigations,” a police official said.
