Alcohol is set to get cheaper in Puducherry as Chief Minister of the Union Territory, N Rangasamy presented a please-all budget on Monday.
He announced a cut in taxes on a slew of products including food, liquor and two wheelers.
Cheap liquor has been made even cheaper as Excise Duty (ED) has been reduced through the new slab on IMFL products. Though this, the government hopes to address the shortfall of 50,000 cases which resulted after the enhancement of ED.
Also, excise duty and additional excise duty on wine has been reduced by de-linking it from the taxation pattern of IMFL products and bringing it as a separate entity for taxation.
