Two brothers landed in prison here on Saturday for allegedly attempting to force a minor girl in Podanur into marriage.
Police said that the girl, daughter of M Gomathi, was from Vellalore. A youth from the same locality, S Siva (19) and his 17-year-old brother met Gomathi and asked her to give her daughter in marriage to the elder of the siblings. When Gomathi rejected their request, the brothers abused and threatened her.
Based on a complaint from Gomathi, Podanur police registered a case under Section 4 of TN Prohibition of Women Harassment Act and 506 (i) and arrested them.
Minor harassed
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old man at Kuniamuthur was arrested for harassing a minor girl to love him at Kuniamuthur.
Police said, Kala (name changed), a 14-year-old girl was a Class IX student. D Kathiresan (23) of the same area used to follow her on the way to school and expressed his love to the girl. The girl informed her parents about Kathiresan. Following this, the girl’s parents warned Kathiresan and asked him to stop troubling Kala. Angered by this, he abused girl’s parents. Based on a complaint from the girl, Kuniamuthur police booked a case under Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act on Saturday and arrested Kathiresan.
