CMC to raise Hepatitis awareness

Do you know Hepatitis B and C can attack you at any age? And the vast majority of infected individuals are unaware of its presence in their body? Be cautious as hepatitis can progress silently to advanced liver disease and even cause liver cancer.

But wait, there is a good news.

According to the Christian Medical College (CMC), hepatitis can be prevented through vaccination as this year on the occasion of the World Hepatitis Day, the theme goes “This is Hepatitis. Know it. Confront it”.

In this regard, a day-long programme has been planned at the CMC hospital on Tuesday (July 30) between 9 am and 3 pm in the main campus (in front of the ISSCC block).

The event will comprise an awareness education module, quiz, slogan writing and poster competitions and a signature campaign, which are open to the public.

World Hepatitis Day, observed every July 28, is the birthday of Professor Baruch Blumberg, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering Hepatitis B virus in 1976.

Liver is “factory” in our body, which converts food into energy needed for growth and life.  Hepatitis is an inflammation of liver commonly caused by infections and excess alcohol, commonly infected by hepatitis A, B, C and E virus.
