Raja (26), a painter from the Pallar community was admitted to the Dindigul GH after being attacked with agricultural implements when he tried to meet the family of Regina Mary to seek her hand in marriage. Regina’s father Arockiasamy, his son and two brothers were arrested.
Arockiasamy, a Roman Catholic from Vellodu Village in Athoor Taluk, was a money lender. Regina Mary, his younger daughter was doing her B Sc at a private college near Vellodu. She fell in love with Raja in late 2012. According to police, Raja accompanied Mary to college to profess his love. When her family came to know about the relationship, they reportedly assaulted Mary and stopped her from going to college. She was allegedly kept confined at home for several months.
When Raja came to know about the marriage plan, he went to Arockiasamy’s house on Monday. However following an argument, Raja was assaulted by Arockiasamy, his son Anthony Raj and brothers-Sebastian and Charles.
