A DMK councillor was hacked with machetes by another councillor of his party and his men after a brawl in a TASMAC shop here on Saturday night.

Rajamani, councillor of 4th Ward of the Thoothukudi Corporation and a resident of Kurinji Nagar, had went to a TASMAC shop in his locality on Saturday night. At the same time, Anbarasan, councillor of 46th Ward and an advocate, came to the bar with three of his associates. They all had liquor together. Suddenly, a heated argument broke out between the two DMK men that continued for a long time. At one point, supporters of Anbarasan attacked Rajamani.

Others present at the bar separated them. After this, the councillors left the the bar. Still not pacified, Anbarasan and his associates went to Rajamani’s house but could not find him. When they were returning, they noticed Rajamani returning home.

They took out machetes and attacked him. Rajamani ran trying to protect himself but sustained multiple injuries. The residents came out after hearing the councillor’s screams. On seeing them, Anbarasan and his associates escaped. The locals admitted Rajamani to the Thoothukudi GH. The police registered a case under Section 307 of IPC.
