53-year-old rapes teen in Salem, held

In yet another case of rape, a teenage girl fell prey to a 53-year-old man, who was arrested near Omalur in Salem district on Friday

The accused, identified as K Selvam, was living alone in a hut near his farm land, after deserting his family.  According to Omalur police, Nithya (name changed) (14), a neighbour of Selvam, had taken the cattle for grazing through the land of Selvam on June 2.

Selvam, offered tender coconut to the girl, a Class IX student of a government school, in a bid to win her trust. Once she accepted it, he forcibly took her into his hut and raped the girl, and reportedly warned her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident. Scared by his threats, the girl did not confide to any one.

However, later on being unable to bear the pain, the girl told her mother, Malarvizhi, about the incident. Following this, Malarvizhi lodged a complaint with the Omalur police. Police arrested Selvam on Friday.

Sex Abuse: One Held

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Coimbatore on Friday for allegedly raping a minor girl.

The accused C Sivaraj, a painter of Sundapalayam, and the minor girl, a school dropout, were in love with each other. As the girl’s parents disapproved of the relationship, both left their houses. After police investigation, on Friday, both were caught at Gandhi Park. During enquiry, Sivaraj confessed to having sex with the minor girl after taking her to Mettupalayam.

Since it is an offence to have sex with a minor girl, the police booked Sivaraj under rape charges.
