Coast guard plans anti-terror exercise

Even as Goa coast was put on alert on Wednesday following intelligence inputs on a possible terror attack on the coastal state by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Puducherry Coast Guard (CG) had heightened vigil and was ready to counter the attack despite there being no visible threats so far.

The CG will organise a maritime preparedness exercise with all stake holders on June 20 and 21. Two teams have been formed and named blue and red with the members of all the agencies that include intelligence, police, revenue and others, said  CG Commandant Somasundaram. The red team will act as anti-national force trying to infiltrate along the coast while the blue team will thwart the attempts and prevent the infiltration, he added.

The CG station in Puducherry is adequately equipped  with two interceptor boats and plans are on for getting a hovercraft, he said.

Coast Guard Airport station is also on the anvil where CG aircraft will be parked for operation and maritime surveillance, said Somasundaram. An area measuring 8,000 square feet has been taken on lease from the Airport Authority of India for establishing the station.
