Fishermen outraged

Fishermen associations on Sunday expressed concern over the Centre’s response in the Supreme Court on the writ petition filed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on the retrieval of Katchateevu Island.

Fishermen associations on Sunday expressed concern over the Centre’s response in the Supreme Court on the writ petition filed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on the retrieval of Katchateevu Island.

The fishing community said the Centre has failed to protect them and termed as outrageous the Centre’s response on the Chief Minister’s writ petition. Jesu Raja of Thangatchimadam said the Centre should provide fishermen with an alternate livelihood.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court to retrieve the ceded Katchateevu Island from Lanka for the benefit of fishermen.
