Heavy showers bring respite to district

Rains lashed parts of Vellore district on Tuesday night and continued through the night till Wednesday morning in some places.

After experiencing heat, the district has received rainfall in the past two days. According to official sources, Kaveripakkam received the highest amount of rain, 12.9 cm, followed by Vellore: 6 cm, Gudiyattam and Sholinghur: 4 cm each, Vaniyambadi and Melalathur: 3 cm each, Arakonam: 2 cm and Ambur: 1 cm.

Farmers, however, lamented that the showers would not benefit them as the sowing season had lapsed. They, however, said if the rains continued for another week, it might help in filling up the tanks, ponds and water bodies.
