Puducherry-based NGO HOPE has sought a Government Order (GO) to punish teachers indulging in child sexual abuse.

In a statement, director of HOPE, P Joseph Victor Raj, said on the lines of the Tamil Nadu government’s order on May 17, 2012, the Puducherry government should also issue an order to punish teachers indulging in child sexual abuse with ‘compulsory retirement’ and ‘dismissal from service’.

The TN government’s order states that the academic certificates of such teachers would be cancelled. A similar clause should be incorporated in the Puducherry Government Order, he added.

Moreover, counselling should be given to teachers to refrain from such activities and children should be made aware of the techniques to defend themselves from such abuses. He also urged the government to put up complaint boxes in schools.
