Red sander smuggling: 11 held

As many as 11 persons, who were reportedly involved smuggling of red sanders in the Edaikal Forest Range in the last 20 days, were arrested by special teams formed by the Forest Department, during the wee hours of Monday.

As many as 11 persons, who were reportedly involved smuggling of red sanders in the Edaikal Forest Range in the last 20 days, were arrested by special teams formed by the Forest Department, during the wee hours of Monday.

Sources said the arrests come days after a forest guard found that several red sanders trees in the range were felled. Patrolling was stepped up in the area. Enumerations from the officials  revealed that as many as 37 trees were felled.
