Eight held in bid to smuggle red sanders

Pernambut police nabbed eight persons for trying to smuggle red sander trees from Rangampettai reserve forest (RF) on Monday.

Pernambut police nabbed eight persons for trying to smuggle red sander trees from Rangampettai reserve forest (RF) on Monday. The smugglers were caught when a police team was conducting a raid against illicit liquor brewers in the forest area.

According to police, Pushparaj (31), Chinnathambi (46), Anandan (42), Subramani (28), Anandan (50), Velumayil (31), Maheswaran (39) and Kumaresan (38) of Erugampattu village near Pernambut were arrested for trying to chop down red sanders trees from Rangampettai RF.

The police also seized axes and sickles from them. Police registered a case and lodged them in the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
