CHENNAI: The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) will stage a demonstration here on September 3 to press the UN General Assembly not to allow Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa or any other representative of that country to attend the meeting of the Assembly scheduled for September 25.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the TESO meeting chaired by DMK president M Karunanidhi, at party headquarters here. The meeting also adopted three more resolutions.

One of the resolutions urged the Centre to facilitate a political solution for the ethnic issue in Lanka as per the wishes of the Tamils there. In this connection, the resolution recalled the meeting between Lankan Tamil leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi on August 22.

One more resolution said while Tamil Nadu fishermen have been released from Lankan prisons, their boats continue to be in their custody, thus depriving fishermen of their livelihood. The Centre should take immediate steps to retrieve the boats and find a permanent solution to the problems of the fishermen, it said.

Yet another resolution said the Central government should grant visa to the UN team probing the allegations of human rights violations committed during the civil war in Lanka.

The meeting was attended by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan, treasurer M K Stalin, deputy general secretary Durai Murugan, DK president K Veeramani, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and Suba Veerapandian.
