Quota Breach Charges Stop Tamil Varsity Recruitment

THANJAVUR: The recruitment process for the posts of Professors, Assistant professors in the Tamil University has been suspended midway due to the alleged violations of reservation rules in appointments.

The roaster system for communal rotation for the above said posts was not properly followed, following which SC, ST candidates were deprived their chances of getting appointed to these posts, sources said.

The interviews for the 15 posts of Professors, six posts of Associate Professors in various departments of the university, for which applications have been called for through an advertisement in December 2013, was scheduled to commence on June 5, 2014.

But the interviews were cancelled during the eleventh hour.

Following this, a poster thanking the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for taking action to stall the interview appeared in the city. The poster released by the Tamil University Federation of Teachers and Employees association said the interview has been arranged at the whims of a few people who had personal interest in the matter.

Enquiries by Express revealed, though one post of Professor in the department of Marine History and Marine Archaeology was advertised for SC candidate, five Associate professor vacancies notified in the advertisement for open category in the departments of Rare Paper Manuscriptology, Translation, Architecture, Sociology and Siddha Medicine should also have been allotted for SC candidates as per the communal rotation.

It is understood that a writ petition is also pending in the HC challenging the advertisement calling for applications for these posts under open category.

Meanwhile, an advertisement calling for the posts of professor in Linguistics department and two posts of Associate professors in the Departments of Literature and Tribal Research Centre for the back log vacancies for SC category was also issued in August 2013. The interview for these posts have also been withheld.

M Thirumalai, V-C, Tamil University, was not available for comment when contacted over phone on Monday.
