PUDUCHERRY: A group of people picketed the Government Medical College Hospital, protesting the authorities’ refusal to release an ambulance to take the body of their relative home.
Sources said Andal (65) of Khorkad Colony died in the hospital in wee hours of Sunday. Since she belonged to a poor family, relatives appealed the hospital to arrange for ambulance. But, the hospital authorities refused. As a result, tension prevailed and police intervened to pacify the protestors. Talks with the hospital authorities did not yield any result. Later, the public and policemen pooled in money and arranged for a private ambulance.
