Jayanthi Passes Off Peacefully

CHENNAI/RAMANATHAPURAM: Leaders of various political parties and ministers paid tributes to freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on the late leader’s 107th Jayanthi on Thursday.  The guru pooja held at Pasumpon, the birth place of Muthuramalinga Thevar, passed off peacefully.

AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa paid floral tributes to a huge portrait of Thevar at her residence. AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudanan, State ministers, senior functionaries and a large number of party workers paid homage to the late leader at his statue in Nandanam. 

Others who paid tributes at the statue included TNCC  president BS Gnanadesikan, former TNCC president Kumari Ananthan, DMK leader T R Baalu, organising secretary TKS Elangovan, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, actor Karthik, film director T Rajendar.

At Pasumpon, the 52nd guru pooja of Muthuramalinga Thevar was incident-free.  Chief Minister O Panneer Selvam arrrived at the memorial by a helicopter from Chennai around 9.50 am, along with his cabinet colleagues.  The CM, after placing a wreath at the memorial, visited the annadhanam centres opened by leaders of various outfits including Sethuraman, founder of All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, Sridhar Vandaiar of  Moov enther Munnettra Kazhagam and Karunas, president of Mukkulathor Puli Padai. 

Tight security arrangements were put in place at various sensitive parts of the district. Additional Director General of Police Rajendran inspected the bandobust arrangements in Pasumpon village.

Abhay Kumar Singh, IG-South Zone, Superintendent of Police Mylvahanan and other police officials were present at the function venue.

Gandhi Meenal, the caretaker of the memorial, and family members of Muthuramalinga Thevar were present at the memorial.
