A 21-year-old Dalit youth was on Sunday found murdered in Ponnai riverbed near Anaicut village falling under Ponnai police station jurisdiction. Five youth were picked for inquiry in connection with the murder.

The deceased was identified as Prasanth, son of Venkatesan and a resident of Mettu Colony in Nanthavadi village in Arakkonam Taluk. The body had two stab injuries on the chest and front of the neck. Empty liquor bottles were found at the murder scene, the police said.

Ruling out the possibility of a planned murder, a police officer attached to the forensic wing surmised that the murder might have taken place due to a sudden provocation under the influence of alcohol. The empty liquor bottles suggested that the deceased and his friends would have argued over an issue, resulting in the death of Prasanth. The murderers had used a sharp weapon and stabbed him, killing him instantly, said the officer.

Policel from the forensic wing lifted fingerprints from the scene. “The victim had come to a church festival along with his friends. The murder took place during the late hours of Saturday despite the place being crowded,” police said.  A case was registered. Prasanth’s body was sent to the GH  for a postmortem.

Man, Lover End life

A 32-year-old man and his paramour allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Katchinaickanpatti village in Kandhili police station limit, after their families dissuaded them to snap their illegal relationship.

The deceased were identified as M Jagadesan (32), a resident of Periya Kunuchi village and Indira (30), wife of Senrayan of Katchinaickanpatti village. They were found dead on the outskirt of Katchinaickanpatti village on Sunday morning. The police attached to Kandhili station reached the spot and recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem to the GH in Tirupattur.

The preliminary inquiry divulged that Jagadesan, father of two children, and Indira, mother of a child, were working in a brick kiln. They developed an extra marital relationship six months ago and their family members had warned them against their relationship.

They might have decided to end their lives after their family members opposed their relationship vehemently, said the police.

However, the police registered a case of suspicious death and were investigating.
