PMK Wants Tamil an Official Language of Madras High Court

CHENNAI: NDA ally PMK today reiterated its demand to make Tamil one of the official languages, besides announcing it as an official language in Madras High Court among others.

"All 22 languages under eighth section of the Constitution should be announced as official languages. Tirukkural should be announced a national book, while Tiruvalluvar's birthday should be announced Indian Languages Day," PMK leader S Ramadoss said in a statement.

Lauding BJP leader and MP Tarun Vijay for praising the ancient language of Tamil, Ramadoss, said, "Tamil should be announced the official language of Madras High Court, besides

Tamil should be offered as one of the optional subjects in educational institutions across north India. More funds should be alloted for the research on Tamil," he added.

Tarun Vijay had on September 5 last year lauded Tamil language in the Parliament and wanted it to be made the second official language of the country.
