CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday congratulated Chennai-based squash players Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnappa on their winning gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“I was delighted to learn of one more triumph in your illustrious sporting career, a Gold Medal in the Squash Women’s Doubles event at the Commonwealth Games 2014, being held at Glasgow, Scotland. I understand this is the first time India has won a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in squash. Yet again, you have done both the Nation and the State of Tamil Nadu proud. Kindly accept my heartiest congratulations on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu on your splendid achievement,” read Jayalalithaa’s letters to the two squash champions.

“I wish you many more such laurels on behalf of the country and Tamil Nadu in future,” she added. She also told the two players that they would be given financial awards by the TN government, which her administration had enhanced to `50 lakh in 2011.
