Nalini Plans Hunger Strike seeking Safety

VELLORE: Nalini Sriharan, a life convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, will launch an indefinite hunger protest from Monday, demanding the prison department to ensure her safety and security in the special prison for women here.

Nalini’s counsel P Pugalendhi told Express  that she was worried about her safety in the special prison.

“Two head warders in the prison had threatened Nalini that they will humiliate and put her under tremendous mental pressure thereby forcing her to end her life,” said Pugalendhi quoting Nalini.

The warders had also prevented other convicts from talking to Nalini for more than a week now. “Nalini said the warders were not only threatening her but also other convicts,” said Pugalendhi.

Nalini, Pugalendhi said, had also stated that she had filed a complaint with the IG of Prisons seeking his intervention, after the senior officials in the special prison here failed to take action against the warders.

Denying the charges, Superintendent of the prison R Rajalakshmi told Express that Nalini had not filed any complaint with IG Prisons.
