Chennai, Dindigul Collectors Honoured for Serving diffabled

CHENNAI: The Collectors of Chennai and Dindigul districts - A Sundaravalli and N Venkatachalam - have bagged the State government’s Best District Collector award for the current year for serving the differently abled persons in an effective manner.

Announced on the occasion of 68th Independence Day, the award will be presented to them during the District Collectors conference likely to be held in a few months.

Sundaravalli who took over as Collector of Chennai district on March 4, 2013, had organised many special camps for the differently abled at taluk offices, distributed equipment worth `43.68 lakh and facilitated distribution of welfare assistance to the tune of `124.47 crore through various departments of the government.

Venkatachalam, ever since he assumed office on February 29, 2012, has been taking steps to provide facilities friendly to the differently-abled at Railway station, schools, government offices, etc.,

Through the special camps conducted by him, 5,892 differently abled persons have got welfare assistance.
