Maitreyan Loses Key AIADMK Posts

CHENNAI: Dr V Maitreyan who has been functioning as the AIADMK’s medical wing president as well as deputy leader of the AIADMK parliamentary party besides the party’s floor leader in Rajya Sabha has been relieved of his posts on Monday.

In a statement here, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa announced that Maitreyan has been relieved as the president of the party’s medical wing. Later, while reconstituting the party’s parliamentary board, Maitreyan was left out.

A Navaneethakrishnan has been appointed as the Deputy leader of the AIADMK as well as floor leader of the party in Rajya Sabha. Maitreyan was re-nominated to the Upper House in 2013.  He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2002.

Jayalalithaa has appointed Dr P Venugopal as the new leader of the parliamentary party as well as the floor leader in Lok Sabha while P Kumar will be the deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha. K N Ramachandran is the Whip and R Vanaroja the treasurer. K Kamaraj will be functioning as the secretary. In Rajya Sabha, S Muthukaruppan will be the new deputy leader of the AIADMK while L Sasikala Pushpa will be the Whip. R Lakshmanan has been appointed treasurer and T Rathinavel will function as the secretary.
