Kidnap Case Accused Slits Tongue in Prison

TIRUVARUR:  Depressed over his relatives not coming to meet him in jail, a child kidnap case accused allegedly slit his tongue using a mosquito coil stand, at Tiruthuraipoondi sub-jail here on Monday.

Police said that Yesu (26), a resident of Paamani, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a ten-month-old girl from her house at Veeran Nagar in Tiruthuraipoondi. He was later lodged at Tiruthuraipoondi sub-jail. He had been depressed over none of his family members coming to meet him in jail. He was also upset that nobody had come forward to take him out on bail.

Meanwhile on Monday, in a fit of rage, Yesu allegedly slit his tongue using a mosquito coil stand. On seeing him bleed, the security personnel rushed him to the Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital. He was administered care under police custody and later was declared ‘out of danger’.

Yesu was arrested in connection with the abduction of ten-month-old baby Pooja on the night of August 14. Pooja was kidnapped from her house at Narikuravar Colony in Veeran Nagar by a gang. Later, the Tiruthuraipoondi police traced her to Meensuruti in Ariyalur district and rescued her.
