Honest Cop Helps Man Get lost Cash

COIMBATORE: While the perception amongst the public about the average policeman is almost always negative, an honest police constable has shown that the department still has several upright cops.

Thangaraj, a Grade I police constable attached to the crime section of the Race Course police station found `50,000 in cash on the road near PN Pudur and handed it over to the city police for safekeeping on November 23.

As it transpired, the money he had found had accidentally fallen from the pocket of a Vadavalli resident who was on the way to a hospital in Pappanaickenpalayam to pay for his friend’s medical expenses.

On November 23, K Sivakumar, from Somayampalayam, Coimbatore, was on the way to a private hospital in Pappanaickenpalayam to visit a friend. While on the way by motorcycle, the money slipped out of his pocket and fell on the road.

Thangaraj fount the money and handed it over to the Saibaba Colony police.

The next day, police had posted advertisements in newspapers about the discovery of the money and had asked the person who had lost the money to come forward and collect it.

Shortly thereafter, police were contacted by Sivakumar, who police, after a few questions, were assured was the rightful owner of the money.
