COIMBATORE: A 37-year-old mason was arrested for raping a 15-year-old mentally challenged girl in Podanur here on Friday.
According to police, the girl was living with her parents in Podanur. R Sathish (37), a mason, was residing in the same locality next to her house.
On Friday, the girl’s mother went out to buy grocery, leaving the girl alone at home. Sathish barged into the house at this time and showed her some pornographic clips on his mobile phone and sexually assaulted her.
When, the mother returned home, the girl told her about the incident. Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the Podanur police arrested Sathish.
During interrogations, Sathish confessed to having raped the girl.A case was registered by the Podanur police under section 3 (penetrative sexual assault) read with 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act and also section 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
In another incident, a 32-year-old man was arrested for cheating a woman with the promise of marriage and having sexual intercourse with her.
The accused P Chinnasamy (32) of Bharathiar Nagar, Pannimadai, was working as a salesman in an electronics warehouse, where he developed a relationship with a colleague.
Police said that Chinnasamy after promising to marry her, had sexual intercourse on several occasions and got her pregnant. After the pregnancy came to light, he allegedly forced the her to get it aborted and refused to marry her.
The police booked Chinnasamy under section 376 (rape), 417 (cheating), 313 (instigating for causing miscarriage of pregnancy) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and booked him under the Tamil Nadu Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment Act.
The Thudiyalur AWPS arrested Chinnasamy and sent him to custody.
