Cauvery River Not Polluted: TNPCB Report

SALEM: The district administration on Tuesday refuted reports that the Cauvery water at Mettur dam was polluted and claimed that the tests conducted by the Tamil Nadu Polluction Control Board (TNPCB) bore testimony to this.

Following reports that the water at the Stanley reservoir was turning greenish and some persons who bathed in it developed by skin ailments, the district administration in a statement issued here said that the TNPCB after taking samples from the Mettur dam old bridge and Thottipalayam conducted tests which proved that there was no pollution. Reports indicate that the rain water runoffs from nearby agricultural fields had flowed into the rive with fertilizer residues. The subsequent purification process had led to change in colour.
