VILLUPURAM : The body of a 22-year-old newly-married woman was found hanging in her house near Auroville on Saturday night and her father had lodged a complaint against her husband as he had allegedly begun torturing her after their wedding.

According to source, Sandhya (22) of Kalaivanar Nagar near Auroville was working as a lab technician at JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry.
Six months ago, she married Ramesh (25) of the same locality since they loved each other. But after marriage, Ramesh used to get drunk and torture Sandhya. He asked her to get money and jewels from her mother’s house for his sister’s marriage. When Sandhya refused, Ramesh used to beat her up everyday.
On Saturday night, neighbours found Sandhya hanging inside her house. They informed the Auroville police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body to JIPMER for autopsy.
Police have started their inquiry after registering a suicide case.
However, her parents, who came to the station on Sunday morning, lodged a murder complaint against Ramesh stating that he might have killed Sandhya by beating her and later hanging her body. Police said that since they were only married for six months, RDO would inquire into this case further.
