THOOTHUKUDI: A sexagenarian rebuked by his son for blowing off the money given to purchase fertilizers, reportedly set himself ablaze at Pudhur near here on Sunday and succumbed to burns at the GH on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Kasirajan (67).  According to police, Irulappasamy, a farmer, had given his dad Kasirajan Rs 500 to purchase fertilizers. Kasirajan, instead, consumed liquor with the money given by his son and returned home.

Irritated by his father’s behaviour, Irulappasamy reprimanded Kasirajan. Consequently, a heart-broken Kasirajan doused himself with kerosene and struck the match. Though he was rushed to the GH, he succumbed to burns on Wednesday.

A case has been registered at Pudur police station and further investigation is on.
