College Teacher Beats Up Student, Booked

MADURAI:  The Madurai district police have booked a case against a female teacher of a polytechnic college here for allegedly scolding a student in abusive language.

Police said the action was based on a complaint lodged by a 17-year-old girl, a first-year student of the college, located at Nedumkulam near Viradhanoor in Madurai.

In the complaint, the girl alleged that the teacher scolded her and beat her up in front of her classmates. However, police said that their enquiry revealed that the teacher is generally strict with the students and had scolded the girl as she was talkative.

The police said that an argument broke out between the teacher and the girl in the classroom and the issue was later taken up with the principal.

The Avaniyapuram police have registered a case against the teacher under sections of IPC for using offensive language and voluntarily causing hurt.
