VELLORE: The locomotive pilot of the Kochuveli-Hubli Weekly Super Fast Express, alerted by the shouts of commuters on the platform, brought the train to a halt, saving the lives of two youths who had fallen onto the tracks at Arakkonam Railway Station on Sunday morning. The youth escaped with injuries to the ankle.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Prem Kumar (25) of Tirupachiyur, a driver employed in a private school in Tiruvallur, was waiting on Platform 2 to receive the school’s staff and students.  At 10:30 a.m, which is when the Hubli train enters the station, a 30 year-old North Indian youth believed to be mentally unstable, jumped onto the railway track pulling Kumar along with him.

Seeing them fall, commuters on the platform shouted, catching the attention of the locomotive pilot, who immediately brought the train to a halt. The two were rushed to the GH in Arakkonam and then to Chennai.
