TIRUVANNAMALAI: Two youths were arrested on Tuesday for kidnapping and raping a 14 year-old school girl in Tiruvannamalai. The incident occurred when the girl, studying in class X, was returning home from tuition on her bicycle at 7.30 pm on Monday night.
K Ashwin (21) and P Karimusal (alias) Vinod of Thiyagi Annamalai Nagar in Tiruvannamalai Town kidnapped the minor in an auto and raped her, said Vellore SP, P K Senthil Kumari, is in charge of Tiruvannamalai district. “We have sent the girl for medical examination,” said the SP.
Inspector Hemamalini of All Women Police Station, Tiruvannamalai, filed a case against the duo under section 366 (A) (Procuration of minor girl), 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, 376 (rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) read with section 4 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act 1998.
Vinod, an auto driver, and his friend Ashwin had tried to talk to the girl on a few occasions. However, she always avoided them. On Monday, when she was returning home from tuition, Vinod and Ashwin were waiting near the Municipality Government Boys HSS in the Town in a state of inebriation. On seeing the girl coming alone, Ashwin pulled her into the auto and gagged her mouth. Vinod took her cycle and kept it in his auto and sped away, said the police source.
They took her to a building under construction on the outskirts of Edapalayam along Thirukovilur-Tiruvannamalai Road and raped her. “After an hour, the duo left the girl near the town. Before letting her go free, they threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone,” said the SP. The girl told her father, who immediately approached the AWPS and filed a complaint. The girl gave specific information about the accused that helped the police to arrest them immediately.
