A 37-year-old man committed suicide after murdering his wife in their rented house at Ramji Nagar in Tiruvannamalai town during the early hours of Thursday. The incident, it is suspected, was borne out of a misunderstanding between the two. The deceased were identified as M Pugalenthi and his wife P Bhavani. The couple was married for 12 years and had a daughter and a son.
The murder and death came to light at around 8 am on Thursday when Bhavani’s father Perumal, who arrived at the house to meet her, found her lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit, while Pugalenthi was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Police said the crime had taken place between 12.30 am and 2 am on Thursday, after Pugalenthi returned home.
“After murdering his wife, Pugalenthi hanged himself. No note was left,” said police, adding that the children were with Pugalenthi’s parents who lived nearby, when the incident took place. The Tiruvannamalai East Station police registered a case and are investigating.
