Minister for School Education K C Veeramani on Saturday inaugurated a specialty medical camp organised by the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital in the Town Hall by lighting the kuthuvilakku.

District collector Dr Nathagopal, Mayor Karthiyayini, college dean Dr Thulasiram, MLA Dr Vijay and other officials were present.

The camp  was organised to commemorate the 66th birthday of the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa under the aegis of the Department of Public Health. As part of the birthday, 660 such camps were being held across the State. 

A team of 150 doctors, paramedics and lab technicians screened the patients by putting up stalls in the hall. The camp focused on heart-related diseases, pain and arthritis, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology , lung diseases, kidney, neurology, skin, communicable diseases, children’s diseases and plastic surgery.

A mobile laboratory and pharmacy were also put up to test blood samples instantly and administer medicin. Nearly 700 patients were screened at the camp held between 8 am and 4 pm.
