A second year B Tech student of a private engineering college committed suicide here on Monday. Police identified the girl as Vinothini (18),daughter of a railway employee, Ilango and a resident of Sultanpet.
The girl, who was studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering, took the extreme step by jumping from the third floor of the college at Kalitheerthalkuppam. The body was moved to the medical college owned by the same management. Till night, post-mortem has not been conducted due to the protest by students. Police confirmed it as a case of suicide and registered case under section 174 of IPC.
Activist Y Balasubramanian and CPI (ML) leader Balasubramaniam demanded an inquiry into the suicide. They alleged that there were at least two suicides involving students of the same college.
They also appealed to the police officials to file a case against the private engineering college.
