Lankan Navy Detains 46 Fishermen

The Sri Lankan navy on Wednesday detained 46 Indian fishermen in two separate incidents.

RAMANATHAPURAM:  The Sri Lankan navy on Wednesday detained 46 Indian fishermen in two separate incidents. The Island Nation navy personnel also seized 11 boats. According to the fisheries department sources, more than 500 mechanised boats from Rameswaram had ventured into sea on Wednesday. While they were fishing mid-sea, Lankan navy personnel arrived surrounded them and detained 22 fishermen. They were taken to Thalaimannar shore. The Lankan navy personnel also detained 24 fishermen from Kottaipattinam with six mechanised boats. All of them were taken to Kankesanthurai shore. Meanwhile, five Rameswaram fishermen had a miraculous escape when their boat sank after a collision with a Lankan vessel.
