Bombs Fly in Group Clash at Tirunelveli

TIRUNELVELI: More than 20 country bombs were hurled in a clash between two groups at Idinthakarai on Monday. Police seized two live bombs at Idinthakarai coast.

John Xavier Vijakshmen (24)) of Idinthakarai, had anchored his fibre boat on the coast at the  coastal village last Saturday.

As miscreants cut the rope tied with the  boat, it crashed on the rocks and was damaged. In this connection, John Xavier gave a complaint with Koodankulam marine police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Jothi, Mickheal, Samathanam and others of Idinthakarai under 147, 148 and 427 IPC.

Jothi gave complaint to Koodankulma police against John Xavier, saying the latter and his supporters came with sharp weapons to attack him. Based on the complaint, Koodankulam Police registered case against John Xavier. In this scenario, two groups hurled bombs in a clash between them.

Police sources said Jothi’s supporters and John Xavier’s supporters clashed at Idinthakarai coast on Monday morning. More than 20 country bombs were hurled by the two sides. However, no one was injured.

Window glasses were damaged in a few houses near the coast.

On information, police led by Vallioor DSP Balaji and Koodankulam Inspector Joseph Jetson went to the spot and found parts of exploded bombs spread on the coast and recovered 2 live bombs from the spot.
