Man Attacked by Gang, Wife Kidnapped

TIRUNELVELI: A gang attacked a newly-wed inter-caste couple travelling on a bus and kidnapped the woman at Nanguneri in the district on Monday.

Police said that Sankar (26), of Avaraikulam Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari border, was an employee of a private company. Ganga (21) of Kulasekaramputhur in Kanyakumar district, was an engineering college were in love and had decided to tie the knot. However, as both belonged to different castes, Ganga’s parents opposed their marriage. So, they got married and also registered it. Subsequently they took a house on rent in Nagercoil.

Amid these developments,  the girl’s father Esakiappan filed a habeas corpus petition to produce Ganga. Police traced the girl and produced her before the Madurai bench on Monday. Ganga said she wished to live with Sankar and the court agreed to this. After completing the court formalities, the couple were returning to their house by  a bus. When the bus neared the Nanguneri toll gate it slowed down. At this juncture, a gang that came in a car barged into the bus and attacked Sankar, before kidnapping Ganga.

Sankar in his complaint alleged Esakiappan might have kidnapped his daughter with the help of the gang.
