CM Rolls Out Package for Kuruvai Crops

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched the distribution of ‘Kuruvai Package’ to the farmers of Cauvery delta districts.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched the distribution of ‘Kuruvai Package’ to the farmers of Cauvery delta districts.

The package, worth `32.95 crore, include 7,000 HDPE pipes, bio-fertilisers, micro-nutrients, paddy planting and weeding machines amogn other things free of cost to the farmers to ensure that Kuruvai cultivation is taken up to the maximum extent possible despite the poor storage in Mettur.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated new buildings for the Agriculture Department, constructed at a total cost of `148.92 crore a.

On the occasion, the legal heirs of two employees of the Agriculture Department who died in harness, received appointment orders on compassionate grounds. Apart from these, the Chief Minister commenced the distribution of cash awards to 12 farmers who have registered highest yield in paddy, groundnut, maize, bajra, urad dhall at the State level. The farmers who have registered highest yield in urad dhall recieved Rs.15,000 as cash prize.

The Chief Minister also released the books - Road Map for Vision 2023 in Agriculture, New Initiatives in Agriculture, Success Stories 2014, Village Level Agriculture Technical Manual 2014 and District Compendium of Agriculture 2014.
