The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has by an interim order restrained the Kumbakonam Sri Saranga Desikendra Swamigal Mutt from altering, alienating or encumbering the Mutt properties without approval from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) Department.

Hearing a petition, filed one by N Manivel, Justice R Subbiah granted the interim injunction for two weeks and sought reply from the mutt authorities.

Petitioner alleged that the mutt which is under the control of HR&CE was attempting to demolish old properties and construct a new building without getting approval or sanction for the same from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment  Department.

The petitioner also submitted that earlier the mutt had given an undertaking to the court that they would not alienate the properties till the time the case is

disposed.

But they were violating it and were also seeking to demolish one of their properties. Hence the petitioner sought for an injunction.
