The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has issued notice to former Additional Director General of Police Shyamsundar and directed the Madurai city police to file the status report in a land dispute case following a petition seeking a probe by an external agency.

A Madurai resident Balachandran approached the court stating that in May 2010 he paid money to two persons - K V Balakrishnan and K K Govindamoorthy. He wanted to purchase a plot belonging to Krishnapuram Weavers Co operative Society and paid the amount. However, the two persons failed to execute the transaction as promised. Following this, he filed a complaint with the Tallakulam Police. However, police closed the case stating that it was a ‘mistake of fact’.

The petitioner alleged that the former ADGP was known to the accused. He had influenced the local police to close the case, the petitioner alleged. Hence, he filed a petition in the court seeking an order a probe by the Crime Branch CID.

Hearing the plea, Justice G M Akbar directed the Tallakulam police to file a report in this regard and ordered notice to the retired ADGP.
