67 Injured in Jallikattu at Sayalkudi

67 tamers were injured at a jallikattu held in Sakkudi on Saturday Sources said, over 900 bulls participated in a massive jallikattu organised at Sakkudi in the district. Thousands of spectators from near and far turned up to watch the event.

P Rajasekaran, State President of Jallikattu Peravai, said that tokens were issued to 917 bulls. 911 entered the arena. The event started at 9 am

“Bulls from nearby districts of Theni, Dindigul, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur and some more from Vellore and Puducherry also participated,” he said. “Since the tamers had to wait right from the early morning, the jallikattu was stopped for a while around 11 am. During the break, butter milk and refreshments were served to the bull tamers,” added Rajasekaran.

Totally, 67 tamers were injured and all of them were treated at the venue, sources said.

According to the health officials, 15 tamers, who suffered serious injuries, out of the 67 injured were referred to the GRH after first aid at the venue.
