A Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) cadre was arrested for sexually harassing a college student here on Saturday night.
According to police, Vinoth (26), branch secretary of DMDK unit of Othiyatur and Gangavalli panchayat vice-chairman, entered the house of his neighbour Raja (name changed) (48) in an inebriated condition on Saturday around 8 pm. Raja’s daughter Sangeetha (name changed) (17), a BCA student, was alone at home.
After enquiring about her father, Vinoth allegedly started to sexually harass Sangeetha. When she shouted for help, Vinoth thrashed the girl. Shaken by the sudden assault, the girl fell down unconscious. Neighbours, who reached the spot, rushed her to a hospital. They also caught Vinoth and handed him over to Gangavalli police, who registered a case against Vinoth and lodged him in Salem Central Prison.
